Supplemental Travel Grant Guidelines

Supplemental Travel Grants were established to supplement unit travel funding for faculty to disseminate their scholarship or travel with students to disseminate their scholarship.

Grants | Average award $800

Tenure or tenure-track faculty without access to existing individual sources of professional development funding. No proposal will be accepted from investigators who have an open Supplemental Travel Grant at the time of application.

Proposals will be accepted at any time but proposals must be submitted no later than one month prior to the start date of travel. No funding will be awarded retroactively.

  1. Complete Proposal
  2. Send completed and approved travel form from your unit to research@iusb.edu. Indicate if funding was received from the unit and at what level.
  3. Send proof of presentation acceptance to research@iusb.edu.
  4. If you have received funding from this program in the past send a copy of your last report to research@iusb.edu

  1. These grants are meant to supplement unit funding for faculty travel todisseminate/present research; or,
    Support travel costs for faculty who have one or more students presenting scholarship.
  2. Faculty must not have another individual source of professional developmentfunding available (RIP accounts, external grants, etc).
  3. There is a limit of one award per academic year.
  4. Any previous awards must be closed out with a report sent to research@iusb.edu in order to be eligible.

  • Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposal approximately threeweeks after the deadline.
  • A grant must be expended within the project period specified in the award unlessan extension is requested and approved.
  • A closing report indicating the benefit of the travel to your research and to the university (advancing scholarship and teaching, improving retention and graduation, moving students toward graduate school, etc.) must be sent to the Office of Research within one month of the award expiration date. Individuals who have not submitted a report on previous grants will not be eligible for future grants.
  • These grants will terminate when their recipients' appointment at IU South Bend comes to an end.
