Average Per Student $300
The purpose of a SMART Research Expense Grant is to provide funds for supplies, travel necessary for the research project, copying costs, etc. The Research Grant is awarded to IU South Bend undergraduate students based on a student-written proposal and application and a letter of reference from an IU South Bend faculty member who has agreed to supervise the project. The mentor's letter should address the student's qualifications, evaluate the feasibility and quality of the research or activity proposed, indicate the commitment of the mentor to the project, and offer assurance that the faculty member will serve as a mentor for the student. These funds cannot be used to complete assignments made as part of normal required coursework. Eligible students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Except in special circumstances, proposals must be received by the committee at least two weeks prior to when funding is needed. No awards will be made retroactively.
Please contact the program office at (574) 520-4181 with any questions about your project.
