The Selection Committee has established a definition of “The Distinguished Teacher” in order to guide the nomination, portfolio preparation, and selection process.

The Distinguished Teacher has a consistent and long-standing record of outstanding teaching performance as rated by administrators and students. The Distinguished Teacher implements effective and innovative teaching techniques that demonstrate the unique ability to motivate student learning. The Distinguished Teacher demonstrates concern for students and their education as well as preparation for students chosen careers. The Distinguished Teacher engages in related educational processes outside of the classroom.
The award will be recognition by the IU South Bend faculty and administrators of distinguished teaching. The first public announcement of the award recipient will be made by the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.
A monetary award of $1,000 will be permanently added to the award recipient’s or recipients’ compensation base.
